  1. I am now retired, but I am a locomotive engineer.

Lots of times, when people think of railroading, they usually think of a train crew.  But those train crews wouldn't move an ounce without MOW, or mechanics, electricians, pipe fitters, laborers, signal men, car department personnel and a panoply of others.

It is much like a football team, only on a grand scale, where the dispatchers are the "head coach," in a loose manner of speaking, for operating moves.

It therefore follows that there are good dispatchers and bad dispatchers.  Hopefully hubby will make a good one.

  2. I work in Transportation as a field clerk. I would think your husband earns more money as a dispatcher than working in Maintenance in the Way, eh-ah Maintenance of Way. Of course, as a dispatcher he has much more responsibility.

  3. I'am starting my 12th year with CSX. I've worked all the T&E crafts, and presantly as an engineer on the huntington division- big sandy sub- Russell KY.  @$ call is an agrivation, but i've grown use it. Can really conplain - dessent job.

  4. Sounds like hubby made his way up the ladder. That's a real accomplishment. I don't work for RR now but worked as switch man and brakeman some years ago for UP.

  5. ex worker.

facility maintenance. made good money and decided to quit and move out west where the weather is nicer.

also pension will be great when I elect to take it.

I have a decent job and no longer on 24 hour a day call.

    Good decision..
