I am a working mom of a 9month old, and I miss him very much every day, the only consolation is that I make really good money and can bring it home to my family, my husband wors but I make more than him and carry the insurance. I think Im pregnant again, and I am realizing thatthis may be near impossible to raise 2 childrena d work fulltime, but if I quit my job things will be very tight and stressful, and I may never be able to return to such a high level job again. I wouldnt even want to work with 2 kids I will never see them. What would you do, mayb e I can convince my boss to work from home a few days, take a pay cut and work part-time??? Anyone in this situation??

  1. I'm not really that convinced that two babies are TWICE as much work as one baby - a lot of it is redundant.  I mean, you'd be feeding/bathing/putting to bed one baby anyway - why not two?   After all, your 9 month old will be a 1 1/2 year old by the time the new baby arrives - it might not be as hard as you'd think.

I got pregnant when my first baby was 7 months old, and after the initial 2 months or so of newborn-shock, it's worked out fine.   (Most of that whole new-mother-no-sleep-postpartum period would probably be during your maternity leave anyway.)

Here's what I would do, or at least TRY, if I were you:

    1.  Try the 1.5 income family on for size - see if you and your husband can get by on his income (plus half of yours) only for the duration of your pregnancy.  Put half of everything you make into savings.   If you can pull it off, then the part-time solution is probably a pretty good idea.  Assuming the part-time job lets you continue your benefits.   You do NOT want to have two babies and no insurance!

    2.  If you can't - and don't beat yourself up about it if you can't - I'd wager most families couldn't take a 25% pay cut without some pretty major waves - look into rearranging your hours - maybe your boss would go for 4-10 hour days without taking a pay cut?  But don't plan on being able to get a full day's work done at home AND be watching two little babies.   Unlikely in the extreme.

    3.  Investigate all your child care options.  Don't assume that you'll automatically pay double for two kids - most places offer a discount.

    4.  Consider weighing how much money your husband makes against how much child care will cost - it might make sense to have HIM stay home with them until they're ready for preschool.   Don't forget to factor in how much money he spends on gas going to work.   You might be surprised.

Above all, try not to feel overwhelmed - lots of families have two working parents and things work out fine.  You just have do what is best for your family and don't listen to naysayers and grumps waving the "June Cleaver" poster at you.   Having a strong, hard-working mother for a role model will do your kids good.

    Good luck & best wishes.

  2. hey. errr... i have a little sis who is 11 n im 14. my mom work full time, all the time. she would put us into daycare and stuff. u can still have family bonding moments too. like on vacation dinner time and other times too

  3. Well, I have two kids and work full time, but I don't have a high paying job. It is really hard especially with a new born coming, but if your boss is understanding and caring of his/her employee, than I don't see any harm in asking for a pay cut for a while until your baby is a little older. Good Luck!!
