  1. Hot and in a Hurricane Zone. The people are of mixed ethnicity and are friendly and layed-back. There is a Malaria carrying mosquito so you will need medication. Some of the small islands (Cayes) are really nice and have a developing tourism - so the prices have probably rocketted since I lived there in 1989. Here is a Lonely Planet link:

  2. I have lived and worked in Belize

Belize is a small country often described as about the same size as Massachusetts. It is fairly easy to get around but many of the roads are often in poor condition.

The weather in Belize varies and can get very hot and humid. The ideal time(some would say the only time)to visit is between December and April when the hurricane season is past. There is less rain during those months and the temperatures are typically in the 70s and 80s.

Tropical fruit, fresh vegetables, rice, beans, chicken and fish are what most people eat.

Lots of nice beaches, great diving, fishing snorkeling, jungles and rain forests and Maya ruins are some of the diversions.

Other than some crimes of opportunity such as pick pockets and petty theft it is safe. The only exception to that is Belize City which does have an on going problem with more serious and sometimes violent crimes

Hope this information helps you.....Feel free to email me if you have any other questions.
