  1. ~~JC Penny was my first big retail job, and that was about 100 years ago! Their training is great it is a solid week of class before you on the floor. I had no experience at selling anything but candles. I was placed in housewares. You learn the products as you go. I learned whatever I could by reading boxes while it was slow. I was only 18 years old, and it was an okay job. The biggest excitement was one evening I was assigned to stay with Ginger Rogers (very famous movie star/dancer from the early days of movies-Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers was big movie stuff). She was completely furnishing her mother's home in Palm Springs, so it took my entire shift, but it was a great story for a long time! Just relax. they have you very comfortable before you are on the floor and what they really want is a warm customer service representative. It's a great place to begin a working career, you'll get lots of great experience. I found out I was not thrilled with retail work. It's a slower paced job, and I prefer a very hectic and busy work environment. I do appreciate the opportunity they gave me, I learned allot working for such a large corporation.~~

  2. I recently got my first job at Old Navy, about two weeks ago, so I understand your position completely =]

There are different places you could end up working, such as floor, where you'll be expected to greet and help customers and straighten up clothes, fitting room, where you pretty much just show people to the rooms and take the unwanted clothes to their spots, and register, which is self explanatory. Don't worry, it's really easy once you get used to everything and they will most likely start you out with buddy training where someone helps you get the hang of everything. Just be sure to be veryyyy (almost overly) friendly with the customers so they mention your name up front, because that's how a lot of managers decide who to give the most hours to.

  3. you will be ordered around and treated like c**p by customers. everything from the prices to not carrying the size they want is YOUR fault in their eyes. not fun. good luck
