  1. No Not at all, its still safer than driving and other things.

What I see is that air crashes happens in three's.

  2. Go to Africa and see how planes fly there.

Not so afraid anymore after thiniking about that?  I thought so.

  3. No, not at all. If you check the stats for all hours flown to crashes, you will find the reason I say no

  4. No.

In the same amount of time, how many people were killed in car crashes?  A hekuva lot more, I can tell ya.........

  5. There are a heck of a lot more car crashes every day.  Are you worried about riding in a car?  I'm not statistics expert, but I'd guess that at least one person gets killed a day walking across the street.  Should I be worried about that?

  6. Yes.  And, why...?

Low cost airlines = low cost safety.  Low cost airlines hire sub-standard pilots.  Pilots are the last defense for passenger lives

Everyone is trying to kill you when flying.  The Airline Management just wants to make money.  They calculate how much your survivors will win in a lawsuit after your death and balance that with how much money they will devote to safe operations.  "Accidents" are when they miscalculate.

FAA and Air Traffic control is constantly trying to kill you, because they are mandated with "Promoting Air Travel and Air Safety".  These two are completely in opposition.  The Lobbists with millions of $$ ensure that "Promoting Air Travel" wins out.

Aircraft manufacture is the same, "there are over 100,000 moving parts in this aircraft, doesn't it make you feel good that were all made by the lowest bidder?"

There are 1 Mil licensed pilots in the US.  There are only 55,000 Major Airline Pilots, the Best of the Best.  Even the Top Gun Instructors and Astronauts dream of being Major Airline Pilots.  But...

With cheap tickets, Airline Management has reduced Major Airline Pilot salary to $35,000/year starting pay.  You could make more than that at McDonalds.  The Pilots flying turboprops and small jets for the commuters start at $12,000/year.  They qualify for food-stamps.

Most Major Airline Pilots are bearing the stress of 50% pay cuts, the loss of their pension, and working second jobs to make ends meet. Many are in bankruptcy and losing their homes.

Pilots can barely concentrate on keeping the flight safe, because Airline Management, while giving each of their Executives millions in bonus $$ each year, are skimping on Pilot salaries, fuel, maintenance, and ground safety personnel.  All to move more airplanes and keep ticket prices and Pilot salaries as they were in 1980.

Hope you liked that cheap ticket.  How much is your life worth?

    Stop Low Cost Airlines.

Ticket prices go down, Airplanes go down.  With a Crash.  Stop Greedy Airline Management.  Keep flying safe.  Support Your Major Air Line PIlots Association.  Vote Union.

airline passengers is 1 in 1.6 million.

It is not 1 out X drivers, it is how many departures in a car versus how many departures in aircraft end in death.  There are trillions of automobile departures and far fewer aircraft departures.  You are way more likely to die in an aircraft departure than an automobile departure.

You are hurtling through the sky at 500 miles per hours in an aluminum tube where the air is so thin and so cold you will die in a few seconds if something ruptures the hull.  The only thing keeping you alive are the two Pilots up front.

  7. Not in the slightest. It is far too early to determine the causes of the recent crashes that have happened, and I certainly will not feel a moment's hesitation before getting on an aircraft again.

Flights all over the world have problems every single day. Unfortunately the past few days some of them have overwhelmed the pilots' abilities to achieve a safe outcome. It does not mean that flying is unsafe, or that the aircraft are unsafe. It was a confluence of events that resulted in a tragedy, and we cannot say yet whether or not it could have been prevented in some way.

*Edit* Contrary to some opinions, airlines are actually accelerating the retirement of older aircraft and replacing them with brand new aircraft. Newer aircraft are much more fuel efficient, some of them in the neighborhood of 10%-20% more efficient than the older aircraft they are replacing.

Also, contrary to popular belief, the airline employment structure follows a First In-Last Out philosophy. The newest pilots are the first ones to be laid off. Older, more experienced pilots are more likely to face a cut in pay than being laid off. They may be offered a voluntary early retirement, but it is up to the pilot to decide if he/she will take it. Seniority is everything in the airlines. :)

  8. I am sure that there are plane crashes every day somewhere in the world, but flying is still safer than most other means of transportation.  I can find no conspiracy theories here.

In the US, each year there are about 40,000 deaths per year in automobile accidents vs. about 200 in air transport. To put this in perspective, the chance of dying in an automobile accident is about 1000 times more than winning a typical state lottery in a year.

  9. More people have been killed in car accidents in the past six months than have been killed in airline accidents over the entire history of commercial aviation.  Just because you see every crash on TV doesn't mean that crashes are common or that airplanes are dangerous.  If you saw every fatal crash of a car on TV, there wouldn't be enough hours in a day to show them all.

If you flew on an airliner 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, without ever landing, you'd have to fly for an average of 290 years at full speed before you'd be likely to die in an airplane crash.  If you commuted back and forth by plane every single day, you'd have to do it for about 5000 years before you'd be likely to die in an accident—the age of the Great Pyramid of Egypt.

    So I'm not worried.

  10. nothing especially if your not flying statistically its safer than driving.

the news never reports the number of safe travels pur day.

  11. Are you worried about all the cars that crash everyday?... how about the boat accidents. if you are not worried about those, there is no need to worry about plane crashes.

Keep in mind, the media dramatizes every plane crash.

  12. I'm not worried, I have not been on a plane since 1973. And the second verse to that song is, I will not get on another plane as long as I live.

Think about it, with fuel prices up and travel down how do the airlines try to stay afloat?

You retire your older and most experienced pilots

You retire your older and most experienced maintenance people

You cut down on routine maintenance and what gets done is done by rookies

A lot of the maintenance simply gets pencil whipped

Parts that are questionable but not really broken are left in place

Fuel is reduced to improve "mileage"

Old planes are kept flying and no replacements are bought

    It's sad but true.

  13. No - because for every flight that crashed, there were a bunch that didn't...
