My son had his MMR on wednesday, i noticed today that the needle mark is raised and he has a big red patch of skin next to it. This is a reaction to it right? Do i need to take him to the doctors?

  1. Gah.. i had this discussion the other day with a lady and if he has any signs OF ANYTHING unusual i would take him to the hospital and don't leave until they test him for EVERYTHING..that is supposedly the shot that has been linked to Autism, I'm DEF NOT in ANY WAY saying he has Autism but i have read A LOT of stuff about this shot and how its not safe so yesss def. no NOT hesitate to take him...i don't care what anyone says..your the parent :)

OKAY for the women below me...no there is nothing saying it is actually the cause of Autism but has been LINKED TO IT...

  2. Hun both my twins had this rash and reaction and like you i went back to the doctors but if your worried talk to NHS direct they will help and tell you about this

    NHS DIRECT 08454647

  3. This is a normal reaction to the injection. DO NOT worry!! Ignore those who say it is linked to Autism there is NO proof at all that there is a link. He will be fine, just treat him as you would normally.

  4. I think that might be something to bring up to a doctor but it might not be something to really get worried about, if it was accompied by other symptoms also then I would worry more.  Either way contact doc right away.

  5. im no doctor...but

i do think that this is a regular occurance.

it is probably just inflamation from the needle, and a vaccine is like

getting a small sample of a virus in theory. obviously if the redness gets bigger and the swelling increases or doesn't go down id say by tomorrow or so, maybe give the doc a call.

  6. That sort of reaction to a vaccination is normal.  It doesn't happen to everyone, but localized swelling, tenderness and general crankiness are nothing to worry about.  I'd only start to worry if he spikes a fever or the behavior and tenderness last more than 5 days.

  7. My son is almost 5 and he had his MMR booster on wednesday as well. If your son gets a fever of 105 along with the other symptoms that you said he has now then yes def. take him to the doctor. And the whiny part is normal symptom of the reaction to the MMR booster. It is already Friday and my son's arm is still sore and has a bruise from where the shot was. The night that he got the shot it hurt to move his arm but nothing else has occurred.  It all depends on the age of the child and every child reacts to shots differently.

    Well good luck!

  8. It just means his immune sytem is reacting to it as it should. That's the whole point of a vaccination. As long as he is well it should be fine. Sometimes there is no noticeble reaction but a bit of redness means the body is sending blood to the area to do immunological jobs.
