  1. if you use a roller and it is very old it might come off ,we repainted an old house we bought and the popcorn ceiling would roll off every other stroke,it took time but we got it painted,i think i am going to remove mine next time i repaint................tom

  2. it can be a very difficult job.  the best way to do it is to spray it.

the popcorn will stick to rollers or brushes.

  3. First off, acoustical ceilings are a real #!&^ in the behind to paint.  I suggest using a 1.25" roller nap if you are rolling it.  Be sure to cover everything in sight as the 'popcorn' will come off. second don't forget to primer first! good luck. Also spraying  would be a good way to.  be sure to tape and mask EVERTHING. good luck.

  4. they are not very easy to paint by hand.   they tend to break and crumble after a while.  i would go with a different type of textured ceiling

  5. if you dont have a sprayer you could rent one or you could always  use the foam ceiling rollers they work pretty good they have small slices in them kinda cuts down on the popcorn sticking

  6. You cannot paint popcorn ceiling with roller as some of popcorn will come down, and you will have a  mess.  You need to buy or rent airless sprayer.  If you live close to a Fred's store you can buy a cheap one for $29.99.  the next cheapest will be Wagner airless spray gun for about $80.00 at Walmart.

    Good Luck

  7. Just don't press too hard and use at least a 3/8th inch nap roller.  That is if you are going to roll the paint on.  If you are brushing, again don't press too hard.  Remember that is only a substance that is sticking to a fairly smooth surface with little holding power.

I would go with what the pros say, do the W pattern and don't overreach--when you do that, you tend to put a lot of sideways pressure on the roller.  You want almost direct pressure and adequate paint, don't skimp or try to make a gallon stretch too far.

  8. Yeah! Don't ever let anyone put that stuff on your ceiling. Any way you choose to paint it, other than spray painting, will have the 'popcorn' all down on you. If you must paint it, get drop cloths and cover EVERYTHING first. When you're done you can fold all the mess up in the cloths and carry it out. Very fine texture isn't bad, but the heavy 'popcorn' stuff is terrible.
