  1. Powdered magnesium (Natural Calm) helps me a lot.  Also, yoga and other meditative exercises helps by releasing endorphins.  Obviously cutting down on caffeine-containing foods and drinks will work.  Are you in talk therapy?

If it's debilitating, find another doctor.

  2. Try some books on personal/spiritually development can offer a fresh perspective. I'll personally recommend 'A New Earth' by Eckhart Tolle. If you want a feel of the book: http://www.oprah.com/obc_classic/webcast...

Seeing a psychologist/psychiatrist would help, whether you would like to take medication is up to personal choice, something which you can discuss with a psychiatrist.

Personally for me, my big breakthrough came when i realised that it is not others judging me that created my anxiety and that I was in fact projecting my own judgments upon myself through 'them'[social anxiety]. For my general anxiety, I began to care less about the world (not in a reckless way of course!) and just be more accepting of circumstances. The Beatles song 'Let it be' comes to mind.

  3. There are some OTC products that help with stress without herbs, but typically those drugs have many more side effects. Aside from those, if you want to stay away from herbs for any reason, you can also try exercise... jogging, running, and boxing (shadow boxing or just punching the heavy bag) are GREAT stress-relievers. You can also use any hobbies you enjoy that distract you and/or calm you down. There's lots of non-pill options out there  ;-)

  4. Other than St. Johns Wort, I'm not too familiar. Is there a reason you don't want to use general medication? Sometimes when anxiety becomes too terrible, it may be necessary. Not judging- just putting my two cents in!

  5. I recommend Yoga. Yogasanas are only very tiny part of 8-limbed Yoga. There are many good Asanas which are helpful in such cases. There are calming Pranayamas also. Above all Meditation can also help greatly. However, since you have already a medical condition, Yoga is to be done under the supervision of a qualified instructor. Some lifestyle changes, like taking things easy, not to worry much, be in the contact of nature, having loving relation with/support of family and friends, etc. are also helpful.

  6. Multivitamin & mineral complex

    B-Complex

    Vitamin C

(For nutritional balance and adrenal support)

Calcium 2000 mg daily - a natural tranquilizer

Magnesium 600 mg daily - relieves tension, spasms, tics

B-1 50mg 3 times daily - has a calming effect on the nerves.

B-6 50mg 3 times daily - important in the production of certain brain chemicals.

Zinc- 50 mg daily - can have a calming effect

Chromium Picolinate - 200 mcg. daily - Chromium deficiency can produce symptoms of anxiety.

  7. if it's really extreme for you i suggest switching doctors...

i like to difuse pure essentials oils such as lavender or sandalwood. there are many more! you can also add a few drops to your bath water, believe me, it's HEAVENLY!

  8. Amino acids help: GABA, 5ht, taurine, theanine

Try the combinations of supplements found in  The Mood Cure

  9. I have anxiety and the best thing to do for it is to go to therapy.  Herbs or meds are like a bandaid.  The best cure is getting to the root of the problem.
