Anything in peticular about United Airlines that i should know about on long international flights

Question

i am flying to beijing from ohare later this month on united airlines and was wondering what kind of amenities they offer on board and general information about flying with united

from what i know the plane to beijing will be a 747-400 and the return flight will be on a 777 also, how do i get a window seat on those planes because it seems i cant pick my own seats online

My first recommendation is to get an aisle seat instead of a window.  While the wall gives you a little support for sleeping, the comfort of being able to get out of your seat and walk around, get your bags, etc. is really important (at least it is for me).  

You can call the reservations agent to select your seat.  Here's your planes from Seatguru; find the exact numbers of seats that you want and see if they're available when you call:

The 747-400:

a 777 should have all the latest amenities including your own personal screen and channels to choose from. The 747 may or may not have the same amenities (they may just have a screen that everyone shares). All drinks, meals, etc. are free on overseas flight and I think United allows you to take up to 70 pounds per suitcase on the plane (the most generous weight limit of all the airlines). Most international flights are booked solid, and depending on your ticket, you may or may not get to choose a seat at check in.
