Anything similar to a Kibbutz in other countries?

I really really want to do something like this, but my Mum is having a panic attack over the idea of me going to Israel...I know, I know! But although it's my life, I'd be putting her through stress if I went, so...

Does anyone know if there are any other countries that do anything similar?

My pal went to one in Israel years ago and he really enjoyed it. He even found his wife there.

Kibbutz is a communist idea.  Do a search for commune.

I'm afraid not; the idea of Kibbutz is unique to Israel.

I suggest you to talk to people who have experienced volunteering in a Kibbutz, or people who have been to Israel. You may get more information and be more confident about your decision...
