  1. Poor spidlings - don't be afrid of them. They can't help looking like that. If you must condemn them to horrible but thankfully swift deaths include;

    vacuuming (Indiana Jones style worst nightmare if you're a spid)

    pouring boiling water on them if they're in the bath (poor thing only wanted a drink)

    a quick thump with a heavy object (on an unsuspecting innocent creature.)

    Most sensible spiders live outdoors where horrible humans won't clump them just for being alive but some have more delicate constitutions and when the weather gets chilly and their little feets get cold will (risking life and limbs) venture into a warmer spot through an open window. So if you don't want to increase your lovely zoo keep your window closed in the late afternoon and evening.

    If you do meet a spid pop a glass over it, slide a piece of card under the glass and FLING the spid out of the window.

    That, at least, gives it a sporting chance.

    Conkers? Dog lover you're either bonkers or right. I'll try them this autumn - lining them up along the windowsills - but I have a feeling the spids round here will just step over them.

    oop Erica, I forgot to say i too had paralysing arachnophobia.

    If I saw a spider I wouldn't go in the house let alone my room. I couldn't even stand to look at a picture of one. Then I thought how big I was and how small (and weird looking) they were. I wouldn't touch a poisonous one, that'd be stupid but I have got used to them being around and even held a tarantula. She was cute and pretty and delicate and her feet felt like cotton buds. Having said that I prefer cats.

  2. Get a lizard. :P Nah, just kidding. Spiders usually hide out in cool and shady places where they can make their webs, such as the corner of your ceiling or a window. The easiest way to get rid of spiders is to either roll up a newspaper and whack 'em dead or get a cup and set them free. Tip: Spiders are your friends and will only bite if you threaten them. Most of the time they are eating the little critters that you SHOULD be afraid of.

  3. mothballs and maybe periodically bug bombing your room. or you could just look into getting over your fear of spiders, they really aren't that bad of a thing, they eat pesky insects after all.

  4. Conkers yes these do seem to work and they are safe to use just spread them around may have to wait until Sept to collect this years harvest

  5. the best thing for spiders is vaccume a lot.  Most spiders found in the home are common brown spiders, which will lay eggs in the capet.  You'll need to not only vaccume, but get under your furniture.

  6. They like insects. No insects, no food. No food, no spiders.

  7. I found a granular bug killer at Walmart that I spread with a lawn spreader in a band about 20 feet wide all the way around the house.  That completely eliminated spiders in my house.  The granular dissolves into the soil--so if you spread it, then sprinkle it, I believe it will be safe for your pets.  Read the label.
