  1. I have heard of it since the guy may want to do so but not have the money up front, and in the end everything is shared.  As long as its fair when it comes to who spends what, and its up to you.

Personally I wouldnt but some people have.

  2. When my husband proposed, he bought a solitaire. It wasn't very fancy and the ring style was not really meant to be worn with a wedding band. I wore that the entire time we were engaged. After we set a date, the solitaire was removed from the engagement ring and placed into a wedding set that we picked out together. I have saved the original gold engagement ring to someday put the birthstone of our first-born.

  3. A man's prospective on this: yes, everything is wrong with it. Engagement ring is the sign of his love and commitment to you to be fully expressed in marriage. It is a test of his guts and determination - he has to make the decision to propose, choose the ring and go for it. Guy who can't do that is not good husband material, trust me.

My advice: if you have to buy your engagement ring run away from this relationship.

  4. Well I don't think that it would be nearly as special if he didn't pay for it and didn't at least go with you to pick it out. That's what me and my husband did, we went shopping for our rings together. That way it is still special and we both ended up with exactly what we wanted!

  5. I have to agree with Andy's answer.  If a guy isn't willing to make a financial commitment to get his fiance a ring, then the guy isn't worth it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it has to be a huge diamond!  When my fiance gave me my engagement ring, it was very special.  I love the ring and wear it as much as I can (considering my job).  I already knew how much he loved me and that he was willing (and able) to begin a life married to me.

  6. Nothing wrong with it. I've paid for half of mine because we're a team and it's a big expense. Several of my good friends and my sister have also paid for half or more than half of their own rings.

I don't tie up my fiance's love for me in the money he spends on me (and believe me, he's given me plenty of spur of the moment jewelry 'just because'). It means more to me that he sets up the coffee to brew and be ready when I get up in the morning than worrying about how many carats my ring is.

  7. I wouldn't because it is the symbol of his love for me, not my love for myself. If you don't care, then it doesn't matter to you--go ahead.

  8. The only girl I know who bought her own ring bought it at a pawn shop when her fiance was in jail.  I'm not being sarcastic either.
