  1. I reckon it depends where you live. I don't drink my tap water coz I think it tastes funny. But in some people's houses the water tastes much cleaner. I guess it depends who your water suppliers are. I say you should just filter it in case.

  2. No, some people might say it tastes funny, but I think it's fine.

  3. I find tap water gives me heart burn.

I have heard that in some areas of the UK they fluoridate the drinking water.  I don't know why it is in just some areas and not in others.

One concern that has not been fully investigated is the link between fluoride and effects on the central nervous system (CNS).... Many years of ubiquitous fluoride exposure have not resulted in obvious CNS problems such as seizures, lethargy, salivation, tremors, paralysis, or sensory deficits. Still unexplored, however, is the possibility that fluoride exposure is linked with subtle brain dysfunction.

Southern Water states on their website that they do not have the medical expertise to judge the effects on dental health if they have to add fluoride to the supply.

At present, Southern Water does not add fluoride to the water in any area it supplies, but could be required to do so as a result of Government legislation. MPs have voted to give the decision on whether to dose water supplies with fluoride to the local health authority.

Southern Water continues to take a keen interest in the views being expressed by its customers, and in line with government policy, will expect the health authorities to carry out extensive public consultation before any decision is made.

Your water board may have a different policy.  Check out their website or contact your water suppliers customer service line.

  15. Absolutely no problem in the UK, or anywhere in the EU as far as health/safety is concerned. If there was, then the privatised water companies would face massive fines and be sued; so with even a sniff of a minor problem they shut off the supply on the better safe than sorry principle. The ethics behind this should be the subject of a question in a different forum.

If mains water is running out of a tap in the UK it's safe.

However - I have spent 20 years moving frequently between London and Cumbria (in the north west of England). I tend to find my bowels loosen, or tighten depending which tap water I drink - but it's nothing serious.
