  1. You could always find some weightlifting to do, combined with some practice running, just to strengthen your muscles.

That's not all though.  It really sounds like your ankles could use more flexibility.  Work on that, stretch when you wake up, and before you go to bed, if it's just those muscles (calves and shines included), it's only a couple minutes, you could do it while you brush your teeth.  Also stretch before you run, and after you run, stretch twice as long after as you did before.

With ankles, working on them is kinnda a stretch and strengthen.  I start by sitting down and crossing my legs, then with my ankle I have my foot write out the alphabet twice, then do the other one.  Before I run I also walk 100 yards walking on just my toes, then another 100 yards walking on only my heels, then another 100 walking on the outsides of my feet with the insides pointing up, and then a final 100 on the insides with the outside pointed up (that one takes some practice, you kinnda do a duck waddle at first).

For stretches, you might have to google something for some diagrams.  But for calves, you can face a wall, get as close as you can, and one foot at a time, have your toes on the wall and your heel on the floor, and the closer you can get your heel to touching the wall and the floor, the more stretch.  You can also stand more than arms length from a wall, fall twords the wall and catch yourself with your arms, and have the foot you want to stretch slide backwards, you look like you're trying to push the wall over.  You can also sit down with your legs out infront of you and have someone grab ahold of your feet, have them push your feet forewards, you can also strengthen your muscles by having them try to push your feet to you as close as possible while you fight back.  Same goes for every direction, they can pull down while you try to pull up, they can pull your feet apart while you try to keep them together, and you can keep your feet apart while they try to push them together.  Or you can just not fight back and get a stretch.

There's probably a million more, but those are my favorites.
