Question:

Anyway to get a "set" in butter stain out?

So I was at the movies and the butter from the popcorn leaked through the bag and onto my shorts. I came home and immediately put water on the area, some hand soap (all I had) and scrubbed it and let it sit over night like that.

Washed it just now and after putting it through the dryer some of the stain is still there. I got most of it out, but there are still some small spots of the stain.

Since I have already dried my shorts, am I screwed? Can I go back, soak them, and scrub them again, or are my shorts ruined? Should I go with a dry cleaner maybe? (I really like these shorts). If it helps the shorts are 100% cotton. Thanks for any advice.

  1. Try washing the area with "Dawn" dishwashing liquid. I would apply the liquid and "scrub - gently" and then it sit, maybe overnight. Rinse and wash normally. Should come out. (Dawn is a "degreaser")

  2. use a stain removing pen or spray thet should do the trick.

Thats what I do every time I get a stain.

  3. I like Shout Advanced and/or OxyClean.  You should still be able to get the stain out.

  4. No you are not screwed. You need to get a product called Zout. It's best in the concentrated gel form and not the spray bottle ... but both work. It gets out set in stains. I love this product and swear by it! And next time, try Dawn dishwashing liquid instead of regular soap. Greasy stains like butter, etc will come right out when soaked in Dawn.
