Nearish to either Sussex, Norwich or the South of Scotland? I want somewhere to take my parents when they visit that has the gorgeous thatched cottages and a spectacular cove but it has to be within a couple of hours of those places because that's where they will be staying. Thanks.

  1. Have you thought of taking them to RYE in E/SUSSEX.

Although this is a small town ,it has its old fashioned sweet shops still, and is rather a lovely place to visit,t camber sands not being to far along the road .

also i recommend st AUSTELL,CORNWALL,mevagissey has a cove ,and thats also a nice place ,i hope they enjoy there stay

  2. One reason why Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove are so beloved is that they are so particular to Dorset.

There are beautiful places in Sussex, Norwich and southern Scotland, but they aren't the same.

For example, for spectacular coastal scenery, it's hard to beat St Abb's Head (Berwickshire, south-east Scotland). It's a national nature reserve, centred on the huge headland of St Abb's, which has glorious clear water, toothy offshore rocks and countless seabirds. But you won't find thatched cottages here -- that's a southern thing. Here are some lovely hotels and b&bs though: http://www.welcome-scotland.com/listings...

In Norwich, you won't find spectacular coves -- this is fenland and its natural wonders are the Broads -- tranquil interconnecting lakes and rivers leading towards the Wash and the North Sea. But yes, there are thatched cottages. Here's a gem, from Hoseasons' Norfolk portfolio: http://www.hoseasons.co.uk/UKCottage.asp...

So we come to Sussex... The Seven Sisters is one of the most spectacular bits of southern England's coastline -- classic "white cliffs of Albion" (pictures here) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Siste... ... but not coves.

And there are lots of lovely cottages -- converted barns and oasthouses are a local specialty -- but I can't find any with thatched roofs. Consolation prize here -- I think this is the prettiest little place imaginable. =)

There: I've done my best. Hope it's a help
