Aleksei Popov has expressed his views on why Zenit St. Petersburg and Spartak Moscow are struggling in the Russian Premier League at the moment
Big spending Russian Premier League club, Anzhi Makhachkala, tightened their grip on top-spot after winning the latest round of league action against Dynamo Moscow at Arena Khimki on Sunday.
There is little arguing to the statement that the ambitious Russian outfit, led by famous Dutch tactician Guus Hiddink, are making good progress since the start of the Russian championship this season.
The Makhachkala-based club are unbeaten in all competitions since their 1-0 defeat in a league fixture against CSKA Moscow at Luzhniki stadium back in August. The Dagestani club, meanwhile, reached the group stages of the UEFA
Europa League after defeating http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar 6-0 on aggregate.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Amkar-Perm-c39067 defender, Aleksei Popov, has insisted that the Dagestani club have all the ingredients to challenge for the league title this season if they can find consistency in their performances.
“Anzhi contains great players and a very strong coach. In addition, the club has some good resources including financial and political.” The former Rubin Kazan player was quoted as saying.
Popov went on to discuss the growing problems at Zenit St. Petersburg and Spartak Moscow respectively. As things stand, the defending champions are at the 4th spot while the Moscow-based club are at the 7th
spot on the league table.
The Dagestani club leapfrogged the St. Petersburg side earlier this month after a series of disappointing league results. Zenit’s 2-0 win against Kuban Krasnodar is their only second win after their 3-0 win against Mordovia Saransk
back in August.
The Meshki, meanwhile, are yet to record a win in the UEFA Champions League campaign after losing their opening two group stage matches against Malaga CF and Celtic FC respectively.
“Players either do not understand or do not want to understand the coach.” he concluded.
Popov believes that the aforementioned Russian outfits are struggling because they are losing faith in their managers. The 34-year-old central defender urged the teams to trust their managers in order to show consistency in their
performances.
