  2. A great book that is a good place to start your research and is found at most libraries is :

Alan Taylor, American Colonies: the Settling of North America, part of The Penguin History of the United States series, Eric Foner, Editor, Penguin Books, 2001.

  3. religion, intermarriage between natives, other countries began to settle like the dutch in new york

  4. Most of the early New England colonies were founded by religious groups, while the Chesapeake region was primarily settled by farmers and tradesmen. The different natural resources available in the two regions also played a part.

  5. The 4 Southern colonies were established as Church of England colonies.

The Jamestown settlement was 13 years before the settlement at Plymouth Rock.  However, it just didn't get off to a very good start.  It was the Little Ice Age and they were confronted with severe weather and mosquitos. However, it was still the Little Ice Age when people came over on the Mayflower.  The difference was that the original settlers at Jamestown came largely from titled English families and they were not as adaptable to hard work and hardships.
