Question:

Apartment doesn't allow dogs but many people have them?

I moved into an apartment 1 year ago. There is a no pet policy but I brought my 3 year old JRT with me. I was worried about getting caught but I know of 6 other people who have dogs and live here. These are just a few people I know in my area. I'm sure we're not the only ones. Today every tenant got a notice saying no pets were allowed. What do I do? Also, the previous manager said that people could have cats despite the no pet policy but now since she died new management plans on enforcing the rule. Over half the people who live here have cats.

  1. yea my complex was like that they said no pets and my mom needed me to keep her bird and they said no so she had to give it away and she was very attached to him ome to find out the people who watch over the complex while the owners arent there had a bird and they never said anything about it but anyways i would be a little upset in this situation ask the owners if you can just pay the deposit for the dog to stay if not you might have to find an alternative for him like at a friends house or something otherwise you might have to give him up good luck with your situation

  2. Usually if you ask them about adding a little more to the rent they will let you. I was renting from an apt that didnt allow pets but once i told them I had a miniature pinscher and there were no worries with potty mistakes in the apt.. they just added 50$ extra a month to the rent..

ask about that and maybe they will let you

  3. I would question them about being able to break your lease with no penalty.  You could say there was a misunderstanding since so many others have animals.  You can give them an option of charging you more for rent each month along with a pet deposit or to allow you to break your lease early so you can find a new place to live.  Try not to get nasty about it - give them options... people like options!   Good luck!  I'm sure you are worried sick about staying with your pet. Hopefully there are pet friendly complexes in your area.

  4. I think that if there isn't a pet policy than you have nothing to worry about but ask them just in case

  5. Maybe you could all get-together and sign a petition or talk to the management. Offer to pay so much a month extra, to cover any damages the owner might have to pay for after people with pets move out. Pets can do alot more damage than you realize.
