Question:

Apartment hunting in Rome.

I'm going to be studying abroad at LUMSA for a year ... the school is near the Vatican, and I was initially looking at rooms in Prati so I could be nearby and maybe even within walking distance of campus. However, the rooms in that neighborhood are generally above my price range.

Can anyone recommend alternative neighborhoods? I'd want LUMSA/Prati/the Vatican to be easily and quickly accessible by train or bus, but I'm at a loss since I'm not familiar with Rome's transportation system.

*Also* ... my school is offering no help at all in terms of finding a room, so I've been using easystanza.it. Does anyone have other sites/agencies for finding cheap rooms for students in Rome?

  1. I was in your same predicament. I was looking for an apartment in Trastevere because that's where my school is located. Most of the sites I looked at were vacation rental sites. Some of the apartments listed are expensive but you can find a deal if you keep looking (I got a great apartment on the Tiber in Trastevere for 1000 euros a month, when most people were saying I'd have to pay 1800). Here are the sites I looked at:

www.slowtrav.com (my personal favorite because they list tons of sites)

    www.romanreference.com/

    www.romecityapartments.com

    www.romecapitalapartments.com

    www.romerentalapartment.com

www.sleepinitaly.com (which is where I found my apartment)

    www.romerents.com

    www.romarentals.net

    www.romeescape.com

    www.feelhomeinrome.com

    www.romesweethome.it

    www.romarentals.net

There are plenty more, if you need them email me. I probably looked at 100s of sites, literally. These are only a few. There was another site that had great student apartments for like 900 euros a month but I can't find it.

Be very careful of craigslist. There are some people on there that are okay but most are scammers. Never send money Western Union!

  2. I suggest to join the group VCN Rome:

Is a group of english speaking people in Rome:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VCN-Rome-D...

and use also Wanted in Rome: http://www.wantedinrome.com/

The main source in Rome is Portaportese, but is in Italian

    http://www.portaportese.it/

    ciao
