How much should I expect to pay for a 1 bedroom or studio apartment in these cities? Are Cordoba and Mendoza a lot cheaper than Buenos Aires?

  1. I'm a U.S. citizen living in Cordoba Argentina. I can't help you much with Bs.As. and Mendoza except to offer a general perception that the price has more to do with where you live in the city than in which city you live. For classifieds in Cordoba, you can check out the city newspaper site at http://www.lavoz.com.ar. Something you should be aware of is that rents may be cheap compared to those in the U.S., but there's another problem. The rental agreements are VERY different. By law, you cannot rent a permanent (unfurnished) apartment for less than two years. The only legal way to rent for a shorter time is a temporary living (fully furnished) lease. The problems don't stop there. The biggest problem is that almost NO ONE will rent to you without a guarantee, which means finding someone that actually owns property in the same town to put their property up as collataral. BIG problem for those of us coming from the U.S. As a reference point, we rented a 2 BR 1 BA temporary living apartment in Nueva Cordoba (one of the most expensive areas in Cordoba) for about 1800 pesos (about 600 dollars) per month for 3 months. That was about 18 months ago, and I'd say that rent has increased about 20-25% since then. Good luck!
