Apartments for rent in New York City?

Question

I am wanting to move to NYC but I need an apartment. Do you know how much they cost, where the cheapest place to get one is, and a website to find listings? Thanks.

To live in a decent (safe) neighborhood, you will probably need to spend at least $800 a month, and that's for a studio, and if you're willing to live a bunch of subway stops away from Manhattan. If you want to live in Manhattan, it'll be closer to $2000.

I find most of my apartments on craigslist, in the no-fee section. Just make sure you do a bit of research on the neighborhood before you commit to a place.

One could write volumes in response to your question. You can't answer the question "how much do apartments in NYC cost" because the answer is that it varies, literally by millions of dollars.

I can however point you to a couple of decent websites where you can get an idea on just how expensive NYC apartments are.
