Well everybody knows about Aphosis ( The asteroid on course for either an extremely near pass, in 2029, or a collision, 2036.

There is nothing to worry about with the near pass, but if it hits a specific area in space, which is only 400 meters across, it will alter its trajectory. It has then been predicted from this trajectory it is meant to hit earth in 2036.

Referring to the above paragraph, there is a 1 in 45,000 chance of this.

Also another impact has been predicted in 2037 but the probability of this has been calculated as 1 in 12.3 million ( so extremely unlikely )

i was just wondering what other peoples views are on this?

Personally im pretty open minded about these things because yeah, it is possible and we wont know until scientists can confirm what is going to happen, their next window of opportunity to take measurements is sometime in 2013.

  1. It strikes me that 1 in 45,000 are still pretty low odds.  The odds have got to be higher than that of me dying in a random housefire, and I'm not too worried about that...

  2. Well... Luck is funny... because it likes to happen with irony when its chance is low... and... people win in lotteries... so maybe its time for our planet... to win... And honeslty... by my estimation of whole civilisation power... we are not ready to really avoid hitting... like barbarian with knife against totaly armed and sealed tank... Landing on its surface is again low in posibility... Chagning its trajectory brings problem from no experience and pathetic equipment... Askign God for help?... Funny... We torment this place isntead of rising and expanding... Sorry for hard words... Maybe its just me speaking above real situation... but... Imagine snow ball (huge) flying directly in your face... and you cant use hands to cover it... but all you have are little fireworks to hit it... Well... only hitting is assured... but not the expected effect... Ballistics is a great science... It can explain why asteroids demands respect... and science about Universe begining explains why they dont hit so often... Its pure Math and long time closed in settled trajectory... I dont fear its possible hit... I only wish we would be more ready... but... I am freak... people are free on their choices... so we have the world as its sum of all of it...
