I think it's fairly funny that people honestly believe this will be a close game.  While I would LOVE to see Appalachian State win...it's not even close.  LSU will slaughter them...prediction is about 55-10

The win at the Big House was no fluke--it is hard for anyone to win there.  Appy State won last year because of one reason: speed.  One missed tackle--touchdown.  Good ball-get-off--blocked kick.  Appy State won't have that luxury when they face an SEC opponent. Like the boys from Boone, LSU is a returning national champion but that doesn't mean they are contending for this year's crown, having lost several key players, most notably Glenn Dorsey.  

There is a reason why teams like LSU and Georgia play SOCO squads in their season opener--the SOCO may be the second most intense conference in D-I football, and they spread the field as well as if not better than anyone.  And that brings the game back down to the most important fundamentals, namely tackling in space and on-the-field communication.  Moreover, it puts your best coaching schemes to the test.  (If LSU wants to contend for the SEC title, their plans versus the spread best get fine tuned in this game--think Florida and Auburn.)

Yes, Appy State is an underdog.  But there is a subtle difference between this game and a year ago: the Mountainers know they can beat a powerful opponent.  They will come out picking a fight, and if LSU makes any lazy first-game mistakes they will may dearly.  I smell an upset.

I see this being an interesting game for a while but will not be an upset like last year when they beat Michigan. Playing in the swamp is a hard place to win.
