so i got a £20 fine 3 weeks ago for not buying a ticket. paid £2 of it there and then to the inspector, which left me with £18. today is the last day to pay it, and i paid it about an hour ago. the problem is there was a 25p handling fee, which i can't pay because i don't have 25p in my account. (i know, i'm poor). but i have paid the fine. just not the handling fee. wil they still charge me extra? i appealed explaining this but i'm not sure what's gonna happen. thoughts on this?

  1. im sorry, u should have bought a ticket in the first place, the likes of yourself contribute to fare rises, everyone else has to pay.u should look into the handling fee

  2. Dont agree they are robbers 25p  very generious I say     just think on   if it goes to court she will have court costs also...

  3. they are fnckers!!!

i got stung £20 for .... oh i'm not going into it right now.

Email me where to send the 25p to and i'll pay it for you.

    message me your contact details.

  4. Why do anything?

  5. Hi!

    OMG!  Handling fee!!  HANDLING FEE!!

Dontcha agree handling fees are daylight robbery?  Grrrr!!!

I assume you paid it on line - so where's the 'handling fee' ??

Oh, you've got me on a rant now!!

I'm sure they'll have some kind of system whereby they can waive the 25p - I mean it'll cost them at least £25 to chase you for it - so why even bother?!

    All the best!

BTW - expect the usual 'should've paid the fare in the first place' type of answers.  If you do get any - just ignore 'em!!

  6. It depends on the company and also where you paid off the Penalty fare.  If you did not have the handling fee, you should have gone to your nearest manned station, there no handling fee would have been made.

If the TOC you where caught by uses an outside company to collect and process the debts, then you could recieve a letter soon asking for the extra money and a supplement charge for the outstanding debt.  If not paid then yes they could take you to court still for the outstanding.

I am sorry to say but you should have brought the train ticket or not travelled at all and lucky only an inspector caught you, if it had been the case of a security gaurd that some company employee, there would also have been a £15 handling and administration fee on top of the £20 fine.
