Appeals against the spot-fixing sentence rejected for Salman Butt and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Amir-c76675 – Cricket News Update
On Wednesday, November 23, 2011 spot-fixing tainted Pakistan players http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-Butt-c2418 and Mohammad Amir had their appeals against their sentence rejected by the Court of Appeal in England.
The players will now serve full term of their 30 months and six month sentence in full now that they have been denied a reduction in their prison time which the players are currently doing in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
The three-man panel headed by Lord Chief Justice, Igor Judge heard the hearing after which it was concluded that the players needed to do full time which would send a stern massage in the cricketing world against any foul play.
After hearing the arguments of the lawyer of the player, Lord Judge said, “This is a notorious and essentially simple case. It was spot-fixing. Three no-balls were bowled, in effect, to order. It was a betting scam, and they were very well rewarded.”
Lord Judge blamed former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 captain Salman Butt for the whole debacle and placed the responsibility on his shoulders as the Judge insisted that the it was the job of the captain to stop spot-fixing from taking place.
"His duty as captain was that if there was the faintest whiff of corruption, he was to step in and stop it," Lord Judge opined.
According to the Judge as players it is the responsibility of the players to give their best at all times.
Meanwhile, Butt and Amir were not present in the hearing as they chose their lawyers to represent them.
The spot-fixing trio of Butt, Amir and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed to deliberately bowl no-balls against England during the Lord’s Test in the
summer of 2010.
The three players were already barred from the game by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after the players were found guilty of spot-fixing charges. According to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625, the players cannot play any cricket event sponsored by ICC or its member cricket
boards.
Butt has been barred for ten, Asif for seven and Amir for five-years during this time, however, the players can work as cricket experts on television and radio.
