    But really d

    It was an attempt by Britain and France to either buy time to re-arm or to (they hoped) to stop German expansion.  After the slaughter of WWI only a few years before it was a very understandable reaction.


  2. I would have to choose D, none of the above. As I understand it, appeasement was essentially a bribe, give Hitler some of what he wanted in the hopes he would settle for what was given instead of going to war. Chamberlain came back and waved the signed documents proclaiming success in avoiding war. Hitler promptly went back on his word and went to war to expand anyway. Appeasement was a total failure of diplomacy.

    Basically it was a way to keep Hitler happy and yet give the Allies a much needed time span to prepare for war in case Hitler would break his promise and he did when he invaded Poland in 1939
