Applauding to be transferred from Al Stall to Michael Matz
The undefeated 4-year-old filly, Applauding, raced for all her three starts under the bannerof trainer Al Stall Jr.’s barn at Oaklawn Park, but now she is in the process of being transferred from Al Stall’s barn to trainer Michael Matz’s stable at Palm Meadows.
The news was confirmed by Matz himself on 9 January, 2012.
Ramona S. Bass’ Applauding has had a spectacular career so far, in which she has won three in as many starts. Breaking her maiden at Keeneland’s synthetic surface on 14 October, 2011, Applauding were better than fellow maidens over six furlongs under jockey
Garrett Gomez, as the couple got the distance in 1 minute and 7.76 seconds.
Remained over a distance of six furlongs, Applauding was sent to Fair Grounds Race Course to run in an allowance optional claimer on 2 December, 2011. This time under jockey S. Sellers, Applauding capped off the year with a victory.
After returning from an 11 ½ month layoff, Applauding returned to the races in an allowance optional claimer at Churchill Downs in November last year, and she picked up where she left it from, and won the six furlong dash in 1 minute and 10.84 seconds under
rider J. Rocco.
Bred in Florida by BryLynn Farm, Applauding won all of her three starts with the combined margin of 16 ¼ lengths.
“I didn’t know anything about this until I received a phone message from Al’s assistant at Oaklawn last night that said the horse was being sent to me,” Matz said. “I haven’t spoken to Al yet. The filly is scheduled to arrive here on Thursday morning. I
really don’t know the circumstances surrounding the change. Ramona has horses with several different trainers and moves them around from time to time. Naturally getting a filly of this caliber is a very pleasant surprise and a nice addition to the barn.”
Applauding is yet to kick off her 2013 campaign, and her current trainer, Michael Matz, hasn’t laid out a plan for Congrats’ filly, who is out of Forestry mare Andria’s Forest.
However, there is a possibility that Applauding will start in the American Beauty Stakes at Oaklawn Park, also run at about 6 furlongs.
