  1. We own an AppleTV and subscribe to Netflix monthly, so hopefully this will help.

First of all, the biggest difference is what kind of content do you want to watch? If it's HD content (high-def, 720p) the best choice at this time is going to be the AppleTV. It has an hdmi connection which goes to your HDTV, and the iTunes store has HDTV rentals and movies/shows for purchase in the HD format already. You may also rip and store your own movies and the ATV will access them via streaming.

Unfortunately for Netflix, they don't have HD online content at this time. I know someone who has the Roku player, and while it sounds great the selection from Netflix is often older movies, and there again no HD content. There is talk of HD for the future of Roku, and if they do get it we'll probably get that too. We *love* our Netflix monthly subscription and prefer a monthly fee model as opposed to Apple's pay-per-view or purchase model.

So in the end, we did go with ATV because of content and current capability, but in the future keep an eye out for Roku's 2nd gen player and hopefully Netflix will change their viewing content to HD soon.
