Applied for visa to u.s,they kept my passport????

i applied for a spouse visa to the u.s.a ,i had my interview more than 10 days ago , why has the u.s consulate kept my passport????

  1. Don't know.  Why didn't you ask them?  Call the embassy and AsK.


  2. Well, they keep your passport so they can put your visa in (if you get one, that is) and than send it back to you. If you wont get a visa, they'll also send it back to you, but just in case you do get one, they make sure you don't need to take the trouble of coming to the embassy again to pick it up.

    I got my two visa to the US really quickly (First one was through an agency, which is forbidden since 9-11, second one I went to the Embassy one day, got the passport by mail the next morning), but I was single, applying for J-1 for a definite amount of time and had no strings attached on either side of the ocean (as in no hubby at home OR in the US), so that's why it probably didn't take them a long time. Might take them a little longer in your case. But you'll get your passport back.
