Question:

Applying both liquid AND pencil eyeliner? 10pts best answer?

I like the look and long lasting-ness of liquid eyeliner but I currently use pencil eyeliner on a daily basis. Liquid eyeliner can be such a pain in the butt to apply so i was wondering if it would work if i applied pencil eyeliner first and then use that as a guideline for when I apply the liquid eyeliner.

I'm basically asking if applying the liquid eyeliner "on top" of the pencil eyeliner would still keep the long-lasting appearance, or would it just smudge after a few hrs like pencil eyeliner does?

And i'm asking this on here because i don't have liquid eyeliner to test it myself. I wanted to know before i go out and buy one.

Also, what is a good, long lasting brand of liquid eyeliner that you would recommend?

Thanks to everyone that answers!

  1. One of the best long lasting eyeliners out there is MAC Fluidline.  It has a shoe polish-like consistency and gives the look of a liquid eyeliner.  It must be applied with a good brush.  I bought a flat brush from an art store.  It has a VERY fine edge and it is also great to practice with.  Than that'll be the only liner you need.  Some cosmetic companies make a waterproof sealer for eye makeup.

  2. I use almay liquid eyeliner and love it...It has a nice sharp tip which gives me the look I want. Yeah, I would totally put pencil on top and just trace over it with liquid which actually makes it last longer. Hmmm here's a you tube video that helps with eyeliner...

  4. I love eyeliner so much, so I'm so happy to be answering this question!

I was always afraid to use liquid eyeliner, because I could never get the hang of it. But I assure you, with enough patience and practice you CAN do it.

I would apply the pencil to your eyes as your normally do. Then, carefully go over it with a liquid eyeliner. Take your time and go VERY slowly. If you mess up, keep plenty of Q-tips handy to erase mistakes. I know how frustrating it can be if you mess up, but just hang in there, it definitely will get easier if you practice and have patience.

I would highly recommend covergirl liquid eyeliner. I use it in very black. It's amazing. The tip is perfect, it comes off easy if you make a mistake, and it's so easy to hold and navigate. Here's a link:

    Hope I helped!

Have fun, and good luck! Take your time and go slow!

  5. I don't see how it wouldn't work....

I use Loreal. I like the pen type, but its all up to you.

If you know where a sephora is you can ask someone in the store :)

  6. i use the physicians formula pen type liquid eyeliner its awesome, looks great and the amount of ease and control is fab.

  8. Yes, that would work fine. Apply Pencil, dab with Q-tip to remove any excess and then do the Liquid.

You could also try using Liquid first, then going over it with a black eyeshow or black eyeliner powder. For me that techniques helps to reduce smudging. I apply the power just as the liquid is just about, but NOT completely, dry.

Try out a few methods to see what works best for you!
