Question:

Applying for Masters - Don't have Honors or 4 years undergraduate degree?

I'm finishing my 3 years bachelor degree with an overall average of A-. I would like to do a masters but it looks like having a 4 years bachelor or an honor program is always required. What should I do? Should I do a certificate in something? Is it possible to extend a 3 years bachelor into a four years bachelor? Should I just give up the idea of doing a masters? Anybody else was in this situation?

  1. A bachelors degree is a bachelors degree, no matter how long it took you to get it.  A European 3-year bachelors is equivalent to a US 4-year bachelors.

  2. You should check with your advisor. Requirements can vary in different programs and at different schools.

  3. If you are graduating from an accredited US institution with an accredited bachelor degree, why is it an issue if it is 3 years or 4?  Is it an international school? That may cause some problems or require  extra documentation, if there are equivalency questions but for the most part, it sounds like a non-issue.

Contact the schools you are most interested in applying and talk to their admission staff.  They are the best source of clarification.

Don't give up your plans for continuing your education.

    Good luck
