Question:

Applying for a job online?

I've applied for many jobs through the internet and never received any calls from anywhere or interview offers. I assumed that my qualifications were not good enough, or no one ever looked at the application at all. Has anyone ever gotten a job after applying online. I recently applied for a job a best buy online. How can I increase my chances of getting an interview?

  1. I got a job at JcPenney's, and I applied online.

To really increase your chances of getting called back, you should call the store, and ask for either the hiring manager or manager, and let them know.

Just say something simple such as " Hi my name is (_), and I filled out an application online a few days ago, and I was wondering if you have had a chance to look at it, because I am very interested in a job at your store.

It shows you are enthusiastic and really care about getting the job.

    Good luck!!

  2. I recommend that after you apply online, give it a few days (maybe a week) and then give the employer a call. Ask to speak to the hiring manager. Let them you know applied online, and wanted to check the status of the application, make sure they got it, and see if anything has come from it. They'll usually take your name and let you know that they did receive it and will be giving you a call.

Why do this? It lets them know that you are interested, and gets your application noticed in slew of all the other ones on the pile.

    Good luck!

  3. I actually did get hired from a job I found online and my sister has gotten a couple of interviews.  We go to http://www.indeed.com .  As far as best buy and many of the others I wondered the same thing as I hadn't received calls from jobs recently that I should have been qualified for - however those have been through a different site.  My assumption is that it goes to the corporate office in who knows where and gets lost, why don't you call Bestbuy in the morning and let them know you filled one out, maybe they can call the corporate office and have them fax it over.  I am actually going to do the same...lol.

  4. I'm not saying it is impossible to get a job online but mail a resume in as well. It will get to the HR Dept a lot faster and they'll see it first before an online application. As example: my company just posted an executive assistant position...we've got a stack about 10 inches high of resumes (no joke) sent online. This is just from two days! But when someone mails us a resume, we have to physically open it and look at it. We'll see that one first. I'm an HR assistant and see it first hand. Good luck!
