Also lets say if i applyed for one at the end of my GCSE course would it still be valid for the next few years if i actually do manage to get to the USA for university.

  1. You need to apply *and* be accepted into a college/university in the United States before you can apply for an F1 (student) visa.

You will also need to pay the SEVIS fee ($100) and you will need the I-20 issued from the university.

Once you have been accepted into a college/university in the United States and paid the SEVIS fee you can then schedule an interview at the U.S. Embassy in London. Information about the process and forms is available on the website below.

If you are successful in your visa application then your passport will be kept at the interview and posted back to you within 3-5 days with the visa affixed inside.

The Embassy will not issue you a visa more than 60 days prior to the commencement of your studies and when you have the visa you can legally use it to seek permission to enter the U.S. no more than 30 days prior to the commencement of your studies.
