Applying for city youth council?

I am applying for a position on my city's youth council. In the application, it asks for some of my ideas for the city or the council. It also asks why I want to be on the team. I already have some answers of my own, but what should I write to impress the people that will be on the selection panel? Be detailed, and I will be choosing a best answer. Thanks.

  1. "I'm going to adopt a tough stand against environmental pollution. And I'm going to make sure that our businesses are not hiring illegals because it may be cheaper for them but they are actually depriving our neighbors of good jobs to support their families. As a council member, I'll put the community interests ahead of my own interests..."

And so on... Try to be persuasive, articulate and unbending. Go get them! Good luck!
