What is the reality of applying to Todai as a foreign student?
Am I naïve to think that being a white, American, English native-speaker is a huge advantage?
I have attended a fairly prestigious college preparatory school since Kindergarten and spent sophomore year in Japan (passed JLPT 2) and now have returned to America. My GPA is recently very good (4.0 – 4.3) but wasn’t so perfect during freshman year and the beginning of sophomore year. My writing samples include an essay on peace and Japan-America relationships, which won a full-paid scholarship for my study abroad.
My Japanese school was academically very strong, so I was very pleased that my principal and teachers were so impressed with my school / record in America and writing samples.
Next year, I will go to a boarding school and will take only full on college courses which award college merits.
What are my chances at getting into Todai and/or will I be able to improve them enough in the next one/two years?
