I completed all of my coursework hours to become a real estate appraiser but you have to log 1200+ hours to get your license. Most licensed appraisers do not want to hire or train their future competition anyone have any suggestion on how to get my hours??

  1. Sounds like an apprenticeship system, such as the one engineers go through.  Same problem in engineering.  Elderly asshats don't want to take on the added workload.

1,200 hours eh?  Wow, that's 30 full-time weeks.  Better half of a year.

Basically, you're going to want to find out what appraisers want from you, in exchange for an apprenticeship, to make it worth their while.  As an example, maybe you can provide free or discounted IT services if you have a background in computers and networking, I bet that's something quite a few agencies could use.

Interview a few of them, preferably not in your area, so you can get an unbiased opinion.  Informational interviewing is an integral part of job hunting in the 21st century.

If nothing else, see if you can find one who's reasonably cooperative and also close to retirement.  At least that way you can assure him or her that you won't be competing for their customers.
