Question:

Appropiate Carry-on?

I bought a native american peace pipe at the Grand Canyon today. Unfortunately, I have to fly home and I only brought a carry-on. I have to check a play-yard for my sister so checking the bag is out of the question. However the pipe is obvious decorative (although I guess someone could smoke out of it) is wrapped in bubble wrap and still in the gift shop bag, do you think I will be allowed to carry this on with me? It's my only option as I'm being picked up from the airport and not going home with my sister and since I have a meeting to make won't have time to wait for her bags with her and then take the time to get the pipe so putting it in with her stuff is out of the question. Also the pipe is made out of wood, and has a string to hang it on the wall (it's still quite small) and has an attatched card telling the history of pipes so it's obvious just decorative but still, what are the chances I'll be allowed to take this on the plane with me?

  1. I think your chances are pretty good that they'll allow you to take it on with you, especially since the tags are still on it. If you got a receipt when you bought it, have that with you as well just in case. I don't think they'll say anything, but if they don't allow you to take it through, you could always mail it (worst case scenario).

  2. Go to the TSA website -- at www.tsa.gov. They have a complete list of what you can and can't take on board.

However - I'm fairly certain "pipes" aren't on the list of prohibited items. It's not as if it is a knife or an axe. Pipe smokers carry them on board every day!

  3. hmm i think you will,

they might scan through, and see it, the security might just look at it and ask some questions, thats it i suppose

    dont worry bout it.

  4. yes, its within the guidelines.
