Appropriate Scholarship Question???

Who wants to give me money for college?

No I'm kidding...I'm filling out the Banfield Charitable Trust Campbell Family Scholarship Application and they're asking me the amount of money requested for the school year. My tuition will be a little more than $3500. What should I request? Would $3000 be too much? Would it be more appropriate to ask for less? How much less? I don't know if they're a small scholarship program or a full-ride type. I don't want to be rude and ask for the full amount, but boy! That'd be nice! I definately need it.

  1. Well you never really know how much to ask for, just go with your gut feeling. But if you need help with college money, here are some websites that offer scholarships:

    www.fastwebs.com

    www.scholarships.com

    www.zinch.com

    www.kuder.com

there are others you just have to look around. Hope this helps you. =)

  2. You should be honest and tell them what your total financial need is, including living costs. The reason a lot of scholarships ask you for this information is not because they can afford to give you the entire amount but because they have a "financial need" component to the award. They like to award the scholarship to a student where it will have the biggest impact.

So if you have a greater need then they will feel like they are making a bigger impact by helping you go to college.

That being said, don't overstate your need. Lying on an application can invalidate the award and it would be horrible to lose a scholarship after winning it.

    Good luck!

  3. $3500 isn't actually that much when it comes to education, so they might not even realize it was your full tuition amount unless they looked into it.
