Appropriate present for friend's bat mitzvah??

A while back I asked for gift ideas for my friends bat mitzvah, and I am not in the process of making it.

I'm making her a decorated framed muralish thing. I got a plane silver frame and covered it in purple, hot pink, and orange ribbon. I'm making a piece of card with her name spelled out in wood silver glittery things. It has words and sayings from a vellum quote pack cut out in different scrap-book scissors so the edges are varied. I'm in the middle of gluing those on. Then I'll add a few flowered stickers. The vellum words are in black, green, orange, blue, a different green, and red. The stickers will match the ribbon. The stickers are like textured and glittery.

I started today and will probably finish today. I really enjoyed it so far and just wanted to suggest this and see if ya'll thought this was a good gift idea.

She is very artsy so I think she'll like it. What do YOU think?? I really hope she likes it but I don't know, does it sound cute to you?? Is this too girly?? The background for the card stock paper thing is light blue, almost baby blue, but not quite. By the way, I AM NOT Jewish, so it this like gonna be okay or will people think it is a weird gift to give??? I've never been to a bat or bar mitzvah.

I'm also getting her a gift card but I dont know where to, any ideas??

  1. treat it like a regular birthday (just don't get her anything dirty or sexual)

  2. These days people sometimes forget tradition and give money as a gift for Bar or Bat Mitzvah, but this goes against Jewish social etiquette and misinterprets the true meaning of Bar and Bat Mitzvah and Aliyah LaTorah. Of course, you want your Bar Mitzvah gift to remind the new adult of that special day for many years. It sounds like you know this person and what they like, and from the description of your gift it seems like something she will keep forever that will not only remind her of that special day but of you as well. Sorry I have no idea on where to get the gift card but I say bravo on your choices.

  3. its amazing, im jewish and thats basicaly what u give at bat mitzvahs!!!    u can get a card at jewish judaica stores

  4. yeah, it's fine. I would include flowers to symbolize her blossoming into a women (in terms of religion)

EDIT: I've given a pokemon gameboy game at a Barmitvah (male one) it's not too important, though your gift will mean a lot to her if YOU do it.

  5. Hey, I'm Jewish and had my bat mitzvah about 10 years ago... well, money is the most common gift by far. In fact, I didn't get much besides money. Amounts in multiples of 6 are lucky in Jewish tradition, especially 36.

But your gift sounds like it would be very nice for any occasion. I love the idea of personal gifts! Have fun at the bat mitzvah party.. it should be a blast!

    =)
