Approval of new golf course in Northern Ireland
A new golf course is expected to emerge in the near future at the north coast of the Northern Ireland. The decision to launch the course had been pending for about 10 years but now the Irish golf officials have given the approval.
Alex Atwood, the Northern Ireland Environment Minister, announced the news, which is expected to support golf in Ireland.
“The recent success of our golf champions has created an international interest in golfing opportunities in Northern Ireland and this ambitious development will provide a further stimulus,” Atwood said.
The cost is about £100m for the whole project and it will be the most appealing site of the future.
The plan was lodged 10 years before but it was halted due to some environmental issues and now the site is reportedly cleared for construction.
"I have carefully considered both sides of the argument, but given the boost to tourism and the economy that the proposal will bring, I have decided to grant planning permission," Atwood added.
"The development is an important one for the Causeway Coast and for Northern Ireland, will help to grow tourism, create new job opportunities, enhance our golf product and continue to protect our natural heritage".
Moreover, a 120-bedroom five-star hotel will be built on the 365-acre site, which will create almost 360 plus jobs.
Similarly, there will be an 18-hole golf course, a championship course, which will be called Bushmills Dunes Golf Resort and Spa. The programme is expected to start operating from 2014 onwards.
The new golf course and a five-star hotel will support the expansion of golf. There are hundreds of tournaments played every year.
Some events are repeatedly staged on the same venues due to the shortage of quality golf courses.
Hence, establishing a new furnished golf course will ensure a prosperous future in Ireland. According to Atwood, the country needs more developed courses.
The US, England and other worldwide countries typically host several tournaments in a year.
Ireland is lagging behind to some extent. Like the others, Ireland also wants to host major tournaments in future.
The Bushmills Dunes Golf Resort and Spa, Northern Ireland coast will start operating from 2014 and it is expected that it will be hosting many new tournaments and the older ones as well.
