I will be living in the upper east side this summer, and I am putting together a budget proposal for my expenses. I need to know how much I can expect to spend per week on food, assuming breakfast, lunch and dinner, and that I'm mainly eating out. I may cook dinner once or twice a week.

Thank you!

  1. about 7 dollars  for breakfast

    about 8 dollars for lunch

    about 25 dollars for dinner

  2. Just like anywhere, it depends on where you go. You can spen 3 buck on a hot dog or 50 dollars on a three course meal.

  3. assume you are spending close to $30 a day on just food, not including drinks. On the UES, where you'll be living, the $1 menu at McDonalds is the $1.50 menu. A bottle of Snapple will run you $1.50 or more. A 12 ounce coffee at starbucks is $2, at Dunkin Donuts the same size can cost $1.75- $2.25 depending on the owner.

Think about it, a gallon of milk is about $4, a box of cereal is about the same $4, loaf of bread $3.50, 16 ounce cheese $4, dozen small eggs $2.50.

the money doesn't go far here.

  4. I would recommend not eating out for breakfast or lunch.  buy yourself some cereal or oatmeal and make sandwiches at home.  If you do eat out, breakfast will cost around 5 bucks and lunch will cost at least 10.

where on the UES are you staying?  I lived there for 3 years, and there are some cheap eats up there.

Dinner will be btw 15-25 bucks from a decent restaurant for delivery.

  5. If you're eating out - and eating inexpensively - I would say you'd need about $20 to $25 a day - so that's about $175 a week. And remember, if you're eating out you will need to tip too, so factor that in.

    Have fun!!!
