Approx. how much is my lower jaw expected to grow from now on?

I'm 17, and I used to have braces but they're off already. Problem is, I used to have underbite (lower jaw protruding) when I was like, 9, and now it's okay.

I'm just afraid that if my jaw grows, my underbite will return, so approximately how much more will my jaw grow?

  1. The bulk of your growth is done by now - don't worry, your orthodontist will have factored it into your treatment! If you have any concerns you could go back and talk to him/her about it. Also remember to wear your retainers as prescribed, this makes a huge difference.

    All the best!

  2. Most females do not grow taller after age 16-17,  which means all of their bone growth is usually done,  so I would think your jaw is also done growing.

You can also help determine this by asking the other females in your family,  such as mom,  aunts,  grandmas,  to see if they keep growing taller once they were 16-17.
