  1. Yes, your metabolism does stay elevated after exercise, but this depends on the type, duration (length), and intensity of the exercise. Weight training, again, appears to produce a greater post-exercise metabolic increase than aerobic exercise. In one study, subjects underwent an intense 90 minute strength training workout. Two hours later their metabolic rates were 11% higher than normal. When subjects were measured the next morning, 15 hours after their workout, their metabolic rates were still elevated by 9%. There was a positive correlation between the workout intensity and exercise after burn. So, high intensity training creates a greater and longer after burn effect. But don't overestimate the power of after burn. A light to moderate aerobic workout may burn no more than15-30 extra calories afterward. So it appears that the calories you burn after a workout are negligible compared to the calories you burn during exercise
