  1. Anyone can ride in a straight line at speed...it's not really that difficult.

Howver, being that you have NO experience, I would recommend enrolling in the MSF beginner's riding course in your local area.  The course will teach you the basics of riding- motorcycle controls, shifting, slow speed manuevers, cornering, emergency braking, swerving, etc...

Without having experience, I would be more worried about getting to 50mph and being able to stop at that speed safely.

  2. You can ride 50 the first time you get on.  BUT, it would be best to take the MSF course, or at least ride a bike slowly around a quiet residential neighborhood for a while until you get the controls sorted out.  You want to be able to react quickly and automatically, and not have to think "Now which of these gizmos is the brake and which is the gearshift?"

Even if you do it the hard way, take the class and everything, you would be able to do it in a couple of weeks.  50 might sound fast when you're thinking about it, but it is not really fast for a motorcycle. It's like 3rd gear.

  3. Anyone can ride in a straight line at 50mph.  But if something unexpected happens, a dog runs out in the road, a car pulls out in front of you, will you be able to do a quick swerve and dodge it or jam the brakes and stop quickly from 50mph as a novice?  I don't think so.

    Take the safety class.

  4. like the first hour.

When my 15yr old mate got a dt 175 he was doing 80km/hr (50mph) in the first 30 min

50mph isnt a scary speed on the right road, you'l be fine

just remember downshift as you slow down and use your brakes lightly

    cheers

  5. It is possible to learn to do that within a few hours. I got used to it within a week when I bought my first bike a month and a half ago (2008 gsxr 750) I know its a strong bike for a beginner but thats what I wanted. Here are some tips that I got. Well, if you are a beginner, you would want to get frame sliders for your bike just incase you drop it, you won't do much damage to the fairings. ALso, when you begin riding, make sure you ride using gloves because you'll have a better grip and plus your palms won't get all sweaty. Anyway, most important (I think for beginners to know from my experience) is to counter steer! for example, push right, lean right, turn right... lets just say you're riding at 50mph and if the road ahead is curving to the left,  you would push the left handle bar (making the wheel turn to the right) its counter steering once you're above 10 mph or so. So, just be careful and you'll be fine.. good luck and ride safely
