  1. The adult standard class one-way fare is £27.60, travelling via either Southampton and Reading, or Guildford and Reading, or £38.50 when travelling via Bath. As always with British trains, it pays to buy your ticket in advance, as the full open ticket (use on any train ) costs nearly £190.

    Day returns (travelling back to Portsmouth the same day) cost £0.10 extra.

    most departures have differing fares.. check out if cheaper splitting the journey  than a through ticket  to get best deal  allow yourself three hours to playaround on the site My very quick check  mid afternoon next Tuesday 18 quid single but that was only a three min check  but I do these everyday for folk so know my way round the site
