Approximately how much financial aid will I be eligible for with an EFC of 4166 ? Just if you have any ideas?

The approximate cost of my college is 65,000 a year.

  1. Should be 65,000 - 4166 = 60,834.

    Hope I remember that FAFSA stuff correctly, it's been a few years.

    Although I can't imagine a school giving so much in grants/scholarships, probably some loans or work study or something would be factored in. That's a REALLY expensive school...


  2. Every college has its own formula.  Have you asked the financial aid office?

    Some, like Harvard and Yale, have policies that cap family contributions for families that make less than 50, 75 or 100k a year, regardless of FAFSA score.

    Some places put more emphasis on work-study, student loans, parent (PLUS) loans, student summer earnings and grant aid.  Some schools will hold you harmless for outside scholarships, while others will reduce their grant aid to you if you have outside scholarships.

    Also, keep in mind that while some schools (the Ivies, for example) promise to meet the full demonstrated financial need of all students, others can't afford that and may only allow a certain amount per student.
