Approximately what percentage of people donate money when asked?

I am doing a walk for Lou Gehrig's disease on Oct. 4 (for my aunt), and I want to raise $250. To raise this much, I would have to get 50 people to donate $5 each. How many people should I contact to insure that I am able to get 50 donations? Do half of people asked to donate in a letter writing campaign give donations, a third, or some other fraction? What is your experience? Thanks.

not many people donate when asked due to various reasons like a tight budget or debt.  i would say to ask 150 or 200 people to make sure you get fifty people.

probably asking 200 should get you 50
