Question:

Apricot Seedling (grown from the pit)

Hi,

As an experiment, I have planted two kernels from two apricot pits, and they have both sprouted. (I did the chilling thing to trick the seeds into thinking they'd been through a winter). They are sitting happily on my kitchen windowsill.

Now I'm stuck.

At what point do I plant the seedlings outside?

How can I protect them?

Will they need a stake?

Would I be better growing them in a container than in the soil?

I've never grown any type of tree before, and would welcome any advice!

  1. If you have Encarta on your compute it will answer this for you in great detail. Good luck. h

  2. Plant them outside when they become larger and have many leaves, probably in a month to a year. Apricot trees dont need protection fro frost, a stake would be a good idea to help them grow and they will do better in the ground.
