Aprilia Alitalia Racing rider Leon Camier secures podium in race two at Imola – WSBK news
Aprilia Alitalia Racing rider Leon Camier held an unexpected podium seat at third position in the second race event of the World Superbike Series at Imola.
During the 11th WSBK Italian event, Camier made a 15th position finish in race one but race two was a treat for the British rider. His tenth place start from the grid though did not help him but his extreme
determination paid him off in the second run.
Camier said, “We've had a really up and down season and it's good to get a podium for Aprilia, it's an absolutely awesome feeling. These races and the season in general have been truly tiring, I'm exhausted!”
It was the first outing for the British rider at the Imola circuit. The 2010 event was missed by Camier due to his injury.
Camier faced a difficult race one when he ran off the tarmac due to a mistaken wide run during the first. This was a tough race weekend for Camier but somehow it earned him a delighted podium.
While starting the race, he was able take off from the finish line in a better manner and then gradually topped to the second position in the race. However, that was short-lived.
With a strong pace fight, he managed to drop until the fourth position as other riders were also highly competitive. Camier was riding at the fourth position behind Jonathan Rea, Noriyuki Haga and Carlos Checa. With an unfortunate retirement of Rea, Camier
was rewarded with a third place finish.
Camier added, “It's a shame about the first race, we could have done a lot better without that mistake, and I've got to feel sorry for Jonny Rea – he deserved to come away with a double today. He's had an awesome weekend, just back after an injury and out
there leading the race, so it was a shame for him.”
He praised the performance of the other competitors, Carlos Checa and Noriyuki Haga and said both of them were superb in the event.
